Dr Mathew Fortnam
GP Partner, Director and Clinical Lead
About Mathew
Professional Background
Dr Fortnam graduated from the Hull York Medical School in 2012 and has worked in the local healthcare system ever since, beginning his role at Haxby Group in Hull as a GP in 2018 and becoming Director of Education and Training within the business in 2021. Dr Fortnam also has five years' experience as an accredited GP Trainer.Current Role
As Company Director and Clinical Lead, Mathew provides oversight to the overall running of the business and to all related business activities, helping to also design and deliver high-quality training to a variety of customers.Expertise and Skills
Mathew has expertise in clinical teaching and has been Clinical Lead for the ICS-Level Primary Care Workforce and Training Hub since 2019, teaching on a variety of topics through various teaching mediums. Mathew has also delivered lectures to international audiences and led workshops and teaching programmes to a vast number of individuals from different professional disciplines. Mathew also has a keen interest in Education, Medical Leadership and reducing health inequalities following completion of the Trailblazer Fellowship in 2019, which supported new GPs working in deprived communities.Achievements and Contributions
Mathew was awarded a distinction for a Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Leadership from Sheffield Hallam University and has contributed to many projects and papers which have received either recognition, such as poster prize at the RCGP annual conference in 2019 or led to subsequent publications in journals.Personal Touch
Outside of work, Mathew enjoys spending time with family and following his passion of sport, with his favoured interests being running, playing football and golf and supporting his beloved Liverpool Football Club.Professor Mike Holmes

About Mike
Professional Background
Mike has been a Partner for 23 years and fulfils a leadership role within Haxby but also in external organisations including community pharmacy, local acute trusts, NHSE and the Royal College of General Practitioners – he was worked locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. He continues to provide clinical input to the practice including a regional vasectomy service run by the practice.Current Role
Mike is currently a Partner and Chief Executive Officer for Haxby Group with an oversight role across all its activity. He is Chair of a GP owned Integrated care provider in York offering service across York and North Yorkshire. He contributes to the Charity Sector as Chair of Trustees and the Royal College of General Practitioners and is a Trustee at St Leonard’s Hospice in York. He is an Honorary Professor at the University of York.Expertise and Skills
In addition to his medical background, Mike holds a Masters in Healthcare Leadership and has contributed to the development of Haxby Group and its associated activities. He has a clinical interest in men’s health and works within General Practice, but contributes across multiple areas – local city leadership, palliative care and hospice care, community pharmacy and community delivered care as well as in higher education.Achievements and Contributions
Mike has led the diversification across Haxby Group and contributed to its focus on health inequalities and expansion of its multiprofessional approach to General Practice. He also brought together practices in York to form Nimbuscare delivering services across a regional footprint in collaboration with key system stakeholders. During the pandemic, he led the creation of a national Covid vaccination centre in York, supported national testing activity in primary care, and was involved in the development of a national wellbeing scheme for all those working in primary care.Personal Touch
Outside of work, Mike enjoys sport (particularly skiing), going to the gym and the occasional triathlon and combines that with his love of travel. His northeastern roots have meant a lifetime long interest in football and the necessary resilience that accompanies that. About James
Professional Background
Quickly specialising in Neurology, James worked in the South of England before moving to Hull in 2015, working in Neurosurgery before managing the Stroke community services in East Riding. After starting his Advanced Clinical Practice Masters at the University of York in 2018, James joined the Haxby Group, becoming an important part of the rapidly emerging Advanced Clinical Practitioner team in the city. After qualifying as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner, James became the first Physiotherapy ACP Partner in England, joining the Haxby Group Partnership as a Partner in April 2021.Current Role
As well as Operational lead for Advanced Practice across the Haxby Group, James is also one of the corporate directors for Academicare.Expertise and Skills
James specialises in Advanced Practice clinical and educational development. This includes clinical areas such as Musculoskeletal medicine and neurology as well as other fundamental organisational aspects such as governance.Achievements and Contributions
Working closely with the team, James uses his clinical knowledge, natural drive and enthusiasm to help offer the highest quality medical training for the region, launching training projects including the recently commissioned competency framework for qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioner’s and Physician Associates.Personal Touch

About Kevin
Professional Background
A GP since 2004, Kevin has over 20 years of experience in healthcare education and workforce development. With a Masters in Health Professionals Education, he has played a leading role in developing innovative training programs such as the Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship at Hull and York Medical School. He played a key role in the development of training hubs in Yorkshire and the Humber, and was formerly an Associate Dean at NHSE, helping to develop the Primary Care School’s Faculty of Wider Workforce. He now works with international partners to develop Global Foundation Programmes in primary care.Current Role

Alongside his clinical work, Kevin specialises in primary care workforce development, training and education. Dr. James Hunter has been a GP for 12 years after spending 3 years as a surgical trainee prior to switching to primary care. He has extensive experience in training and supervision of medical students, junior doctors and advanced primary care practitioners both in hospital and primary care.Current Role
As a director of Academicare, James is involved in strategy and planning of training and consultancy activity while also providing some delivery of training particularly in clinical areas such as musculoskeletal medicine, acute surgical presentations and men's health.Expertise and Skills
James has extensive experience in training and supervision across the multidisciplinary team and is also a trained coach and mentor offering this service mostly for newly qualified GPs on the GP fellowship programmes.Achievements and Contributions

Lisa Billingham

About Lisa
Professional Background
Lisa has over 15 years’ experience working in primary care and has been greatly involved in training and workforce initiatives throughout this time. She graduated from the University of Hull in 2008 with an MSc in Work and Organisational Psychology and joined the practice as part of an initial team in the opening of three new GP surgeries in Hull in 2009, also becoming involved in regional training projects from the outset.Current Role
Lisa works closely with the team supporting all areas of our work, she is passionate about the role and enjoys helping students, trainees, staff, employers and the wider system with any training and workforce needs.Expertise and Skills
